Physical Science Lab (By Kitoodle)

In Kitoodle Physical Science Lab, students explore the physical world through hands-on building and kitchen-based experiments, stepping into the role of scientists and engineers. This class blends STEAM Builder projects with engaging Kitchen Lab investigations to bring key concepts in physics and chemistry to life.

Students will explore topics such as energy and motion, forces and simple machines, chemical reactions, mixtures and solutions, and the properties of matter. Through building projects, making foods and experimenting, they will test ideas, make observations, and refine their designs while developing core scientific skills like forming hypotheses, recording data, and analyzing results.

Structured as a lab-style experience, this course aligns with California science standards through hands-on investigation and real-world application. Projects are intentionally open-ended, allowing advanced and high school students to engage at a deeper level through increased complexity, independent problem-solving, and extended analysis.

A unique feature of this class is the opportunity for students to design and prototype an original project that may be used in future Kitoodle classes for younger students—encouraging leadership, creativity, and a sense of purpose.

Rooted in this year’s America! theme, students will connect their learning to the innovations and problem-solving spirit that have shaped the nation.

High School Credit Option:
High school students may use this course toward lab science credit by completing additional requirements such as detailed lab reports, expanded experimental design, and deeper analysis of scientific concepts. Parents may work with their charter school to determine how this course fits within their student’s individual graduation plan.

The elementary and junior high classes are taught by Kitoodle instructor-Ms Gigi. Ms. Gigi started teaching kindergarten and was a preschool teacher for a number of years. She has always enjoyed bringing S.T.E.A.M. curriculum and projects into the classroom as it encourages students to think critically, problem solve and collaborate. She captured her students’ interest with S.T.E.A.M. topics with her creative projects and saw success in teaching kids both academic and practical skills such as gardening.

Her love of gardening led her to become an outdoor curriculum specialist where she developed curriculum for multiple academies. She also worked as an assistant Director in a preschool with over 170 children.

Ms. Gigi loves fishing and spending time outdoors and has a wealth of knowledge about animals since she originally went to college to be a zoologist. she has a bachelor’s degree in education and an AA and child development.
