OUR STORY
Heartwise Learning Community emerged when two educational passions collided: Valerie, a homeschool mom of six years, to four children who honed her co-op leadership skills in the Pacific Northwest before returning to her sunny SoCal roots, joined forces with the Kitoodle team, innovative creators of hands-on S.T.E.A.M education.
Valerie, an unexpected homeschooler now passionate about the journey, brings years of real-world teaching wisdom from the trenches of life and learning and a steadfast commitment to education that breaks out of traditional boxes. This perfectly complements Kitoodle’s innovative, proven approach to empowering young learners through practical S.T.E.A.M. concepts, culinary adventures, and hands-on projects. Together, these two established forces in the homeschool world have created a vibrant community where curiosity, confidence, and compassion thrive alongside academics. We believe that:

Wife, Mom of 5 and 2nd generation homeschooler. Now guiding my first grader through his autism journey with faith and purpose. Walking this path has taught me the beauty of slowed-down, adaptable learning that meets each child where they are. Passionate about faith, family, and helping kids thrive.
OUR INTENTIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY
Heartwise offers meaningful hands-on educational experiences at our campus in Monrovia. Once a week, students can receive academic enrichment through our classes that complement their homeschool curriculum. Every Friday, we offer Learning Adventures a family field trip club that weaves in the theme of our classes into the field so that students can experience learning in multiple ways. We also have a gardening club and weekly park day. As well as a weekly sports class..

Heartwise is a 501c3 non-profit powered by volunteers who become your homeschool tribe—parents who truly understand. Everyone contributes their unique talents as they’re able, like extended family supporting your child’s journey. Our drama-free environment emphasizes respectful communication and empowers kids to resolve conflicts, creating the emotionally safe space we all need. From poetry tea times to parent workshops, we offer enriching experiences that make education a shared adventure—lightening your load while making your homeschool journey more joyful.
OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
At HeartWise, we are brave learners pursuing knowledge through living books and natural exploration. We are wild and free families embracing gentle learning rhythms and the art of keen observation. Our eclectic approach balances structured community activities with immersive, project-based learning through expert interviews, enriching field trips, and joyful community events.
Our classes inspire students to take an active role in their learning through engaging, hands-on experiences. We deliver our classes wrapped in creativity, imagination, and real-world applications. We cultivate a hunger for lifelong learning, equipping students with skills to apply in their communities and beyond.
